Colossians 3:5 and 3:8

27 May

5: “Therefore put to death your members which are on the earth: fornication, uncleanness, passion, evil desire, and covetousness, which is idolatry.”

8:” But now you must also put off all these: anger, wrath, malice, blasphemy, filthy language out of your mouth.

We are sinners by nature, but did you ever think that we ENJOY our sin.  We don’t lust after something just because, but rather because we want it.  We don’t commit adultry in action or even in thought because we want to commit adultry, but rather because we desire the feeling, the emotion.  SIN is DELICIOUS!  We want to please our earthly nature, our earthly body, our earthly desires.  Much like eating food that isn’t good for you, sinful actions will fill you up with empty calories and too much will leave you sick.  We destroy our bodies with much of the food we eat and then wonder why we have health issues and are over weight.  We destroy our lives with the things we do and say and then wonder why we live broken lives.

God asks us to put away that earthly nature and to “put on tender mercies, kindess, humbleness of mind, meekness, longsuffering, bearing with one another, and forging one another…even as Christ forgave you…”  Colossians 3: 13

Next time that you feel angry towards someone, you gossip about someone, you feel the pain of past abuse or actions; when you are tempted by something you know you should not do, but you are feeling weak and vulnerable, ask God to forgive you, give you strength and to touch your heart with the same forgiveness for others.

If you are struggling with something that you believe God is asking you to let Him help you accomplish…each time you WANT and DESIRE to do what you know is not right, when it seems so DELICIOUS, call out to God to  dwell in you and help you overcome these wordly things.

You have chosen to believe that Christ died for you and your sinful nature and that through His death you were washed clean.  Then, also remember that through His resurrection you were given a NEW life, not of this earth but of the life to come.

Colossians 3:16   And let the peace of God rule in your hearts, to which also you were called in one body, and be thankful.”

To my husband, Allen; sons, Dale and David; grandsons, Adam and Andrew; to everyone who has served to protect us in the armed forces, or as firemen and police officers or in any way have protected us and kept us safe….Thank you from the bottom of my heart.

Have a safe and blessed week and remember that when sin looks DELICOUS, it isn’t worth the end result! Whatever you do in word or deed, do all in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks to God the Father through Him.”  Colossians 3:17.

Matthew 22:32 – DOUBTS

20 May

God is not the God of the dead, but of the living.

Our Pastor told the story of when he was a small boy, he was allowed to go with his dad when he went duck hunting.  His job was to gather the ducks after they had been shot.  At first, he would hurry and pick up the dead ducks cause they were the easiest to get.  Later he decided he didn’t need to pick up the dead ducks until last, because they weren’t going anywhere.  So he would chase after the wounded ducks first and he always came back with more ducks that way.  Isn’t that what Satan does?  Why would he chase after the dead in spirit, they are already his!  So he works on, chases after and constantly spends time with those who are hurting and wounded, always hoping to capture one more while they are at their most vulnerable.

When you are really growing and things are going great  does it seem like everything seems to go wrong?  Don’t ask what happened, just know that Satan is at work trying to wear you down and turn you from the God who loves you.

“Doubt can be a positive force when we learn to doubt our doubts and have faith in our faith!”  Robert Schuler.

Faith in God will increase your moral strength, increase your days of joy, reduce your days of despair.  When it seems like you’re being attacked, maybe you are.   Ask God for strength and faith and remember that God is the God of the living and He will protect you from the one who owns the dead in spirit.

Have you ever known that Satan is knocking at your door?  Just dial G*O*D, He’ll send His Son to save you!

Have a blessed week.   Thelma

Proverbs 31:28

13 May

“Her children rise up and call her blessed”

This is the day when we recognize our Moms.  No matter how you remember your mother, remember that in her heart, you will always hold a special place and no one or nothing will ever change that.

Moms aren’t perfect, and neither are any of us.  Moms don’t do everything right and some don’t do anything right; but if we forgive and love them, we will feel their love.

Whether your Mom was the best one ever, the worst you can imagine or maybe not even in your life…say a prayer for them today, forgive them for their failings and find a peaceful joy and a new love for them.  Whether they recognize it or not, they love you!  And through your love, their lives will be blessed.

Happy Mother’s Day to all the wonderful moms I know!

Matthew 10:39 (NKJV)

06 May

“He who finds his life will lose it, and he who loses his life for My sake will find it.”

What is truly valuable in your life?    When something happens to one of your children, you will move heaven and earth to do what ever is necessary to save their life or help them… That is exactly what God asks from us.

Christ gave everything for us, he gave his life, and he did so in the most horrible of deaths.

When we come to God, we must do so on His terms, not on ours.  If something in our lives is more important than our relationship with Him, then we are putting something or someone else before our God.  We may gain a feeling  or a prize in our lives today, but at what cost?

I hear people say that… “It’s okay, who will it hurt”.  The answer to that may be – you.  Everything we do, everything we say and everything we think is known by God.  What ever you do make sure you are comfortable with… What would my family think of this, my husband, my children or my God.  How does it make me feel about myself.

Do you live for today…He who finds his life, will lose it…  or do you chose to ‘not go there’ because you know that if you CHOOSE to follow Christ, you will live the life he planned for you (and believe me, it is always more abundent than the one we thought we wanted)…He who loses his life for My sake will find it.

What do you do or think about that brings you pleasure today, but you know is not pleasing to God?

This week when something comes up that challenges your values, ask yourself…  Is this really worth it?  How would my family feel about this?  Is this pleasing to God?  Could I make a different choice?  Is this about feeling good today or am I willing to Not do, say or think this because of my love for my Lord?

What you chose to give up today, will be richly rewarded in heaven tomorrow!

Have a rewardingly blessed week.
