Matthew 6:33

12 Aug

“But seek first the kingdom of God and His righteousness, and all these things shall be added to you.”

What does this verse say to you?

We are so excited about the last of the verse that we forget to take note of the beginning.  Christ tells us that our first step is to seek God and follow His ways and then reminds us that our Father knows what we need and want.

We have been talking about living in such a way that everything we say and do gives honor and glory to God.  God’s promise is that if we do, if we seek first to do the things that will bring us into a relationship with Him, then we will find that our lives will be blessed.  However, if we seek first the things that we want and the things of the world, then we will receive only the gifts of the world – problems, strife and misery.

When you please God, you find that your life is full of joy and peace.  When you choose to please yourself and others, you will find that life is filled with the conditions of the world.  This is true in every case.

Dream and achieve, but make sure that your first thoughts and actions are to develop a relationship with our Lord, then all those dreams and achievements will be within your reach.  Nothing is impossible for God and when He is the center of your world, nothing is impossible for the two of you!

Seek His face and have a blessed week.    Thelma

Proverbs 27:9

06 Aug

“Ointment and perfume delight the heart,
And the sweetness of a man’s friend gives delight by hearty counsel.”  (NKJV)

You walk in a room and there’s this sweet smell, a perfume that welcomes you to come in and stay awhile.  Immediately you feel comforted and welcome.  You walk past someone on the street and the aroma of their perfume catches your attention and you automatically look towards them and smile.  The perfume is pleasant and it lifts your spirit.

Friends who bring good counsel are like that, too.  Whenever you are around them, you feel welcome and they instantly bring a smile to your face.  It’s wonderful to have friends whose counsel you can trust. You have no fear of taking their advice, because you know they have your best interest at heart.  Everyone needs a friend they can call on for advice.

Do you have those special friends?  Are you one of those special friends?

Be careful that you don’t become over-powering, because, just like too much perfume can drive others away, so can an over-powering friend.

Give sweet counsel.  Share what you believe will be the best for your friend.  Heart filled counsel is not judgmental.  It’s about truth and honesty, love and kindness, caring and concern.  Sweet counsel is about correction, compassion and comfort when it’s needed; but also about genuine concern, sharing and guidance.  It’s about loving the person for who they are and for what God is doing in them.

I am so blessed to have wonderful friends who gently correct and lift me when I need it and who listen and support me when I’m off on a new journey.  They know who they are, and I hope they know how important they are in my life.  Some are very close and some are further away, but it never matters, I know they are there whenever I need there counsel.  I thank God everyday for blessing me with their friendship.

I pray that God will, also, bless your lives with friends that delight your soul.

Have a blessed and thankful week.  Thelma
