Clothed in Righteousness

28 Jul

Have you ever thought about the definition of Righteous?

1:       acting in accord with divine or moral law : free from guilt or sin.

Righteousness is knowing right and wrong and following God’s divine and moral laws, thus being free from guilt and sin.

Sounds easy, but because of our sinful natures it’s not!

When I accept His righteousness, when Jesus shines through me, then I am freed from insecurity and insignificance.  Jesus pronounced me free, innocent, righteous and holy.  We learn to live a righteous life because we are made to become righteous the moment we chose to believe and receive His life.

No failure can keep His love from flowing towards us, but disobedience will hinder the flow of His love in and through us.  Until I choose to lay down my self-life and put on His life of love and righteousness, the feelings and will of the flesh will continue to dominate my choices.

Matthew 5:6

Blessed are those who hunger and thirst for righteousness, For they shall be filled.

 Matthew 6:33

But seek first the kingdom of God and His righteousness, and all these things

         shall be added to you.

 1 Corinthians 1:30

But of Him you are in Christ Jesus, who became for us wisdom from God —

and righteousness and sanctification and redemption

 Romans 4:3 and 4:18-22

3 For what does the Scripture say? “Abraham believed God, and it was accounted

            to him for righteousness

18 who, contrary to hope, in hope believed, so that he became the father of many nations,

according to what was spoken, “So shall your descendants be.” 19 And not being

weak in faith, he did not consider his own body, already dead (since he was about

a hundred years old), and the deadness of Sarah’s womb. 20 He did not waver at

the promise of God through unbelief, but was strengthened in faith, giving glory to

God, 21 and being fully convinced that what He had promised He was also able to

perform. 22 And therefore “it was accounted to him for righteousness.”

 Ephesians 6:14

Stand therefore, having girded your waist with truth, having put on the breastplate of

 1Thessalonians 5:8

But let us who are of the day be sober, putting on the breastplate of faith and love,

and as a helmet the hope of salvation.

Ephesians 4:22-24

that you put off, concerning your former conduct, the old man which grows corrupt

according to the deceitful lusts, 23 and be renewed in the spirit of your mind,

24 and that you put on the new man which was created according to God,

         in true righteousness and holiness.

Romans 6:12-13

Therefore do not let sin reign in your mortal body, that you should obey it in its lusts.

13 And do not present your members as instruments of unrighteousness to sin,

but present yourselves to God as being alive from the dead, and your members

as instruments of righteousness to God.

 Galatians 2:20

I have been crucified with Christ; it is no longer I who live, but Christ lives in me;

and the life which I now live in the flesh I live by faith in the Son of God,

who loved me and gave Himself for me.

Isaiah 61:10-11

10 I will greatly rejoice in the Lord, My soul shall be joyful in my God;

For He has clothed me with the garments of salvation,

He has covered me with the robe of righteousness,

As a bridegroom decks himself with ornaments,

And as a bride adorns herself with her jewels.
11 For as the earth brings forth its bud,

As the garden causes the things that are sown in it to spring forth,

So the Lord God will cause righteousness and praise to spring forth before all the nations.

We cannot wear righteousness as our covering unless we believe

and receive the truths about our new identity in Christ.

Let’s encourage each other to seek, to choose,

to wear and to triumph over life through Right Thoughts.

Putting on the first piece of Armor – Truth

20 Jul

Covered with Truth

The first piece of God’s armor

Galatians 3:27

For as many of you as were baptized into Christ have put on Christ.

 John 14:6

Jesus said to him, “I am the way, the truth, and the life.

No one comes to the Father except through Me.

Psalm 51:6

Behold, You desire truth in the inward parts,

And in the hidden part You will make me to know wisdom.

 John 8:32

And you shall know the truth, and the truth shall make you free.

 Ephesians 1:13

In Him you also trusted, after you heard the word of truth,

the gospel of your salvation; in whom also, having believed,

you were sealed with the Holy Spirit of promise,

Put on truth by feeding on the words of the Bible.

When you seek God, He will open your eyes to see Him in His glory.

The first test of truth comes in your thoughts…you must make a choice.

If the thought is from the flesh, you must deny it and put on truth.  HOW?

(Philippians 4:13 – I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me.)

If the thought is from Satan…you must resist his lie by the power of Jesus and

replace it with truth from God’s word.

If the thought is from the Spirit…you must affirm and obey it, then walk in the

Light of that truth.

God’s word IS your truth!

We can not bargain with truth or “make a deal”.  It is truth.  It is fact, but it is also love!

Let’s encourage each other to seek, to choose, to wear

and to triumph over life with Truth.

Putting on the Armor of God – Study

14 Jul

We are beginning a new study about putting on the armor of God.  Join us, and we’d love to hear your comments.

The Whole Armor of God

Do you battle with guilt, boredom, discouragement, fear?  Do you face loneliness, hopelessness, failure or rejection?  Not everyone is afraid of driving alone at night, but many fear the failure of meeting others’ expectations, the loss of a friend or loved one or the lack of acceptance.  Maybe you are concerned about your spouse or children.  Maybe you are struggling with thoughts of inadequacy or worthlessness.

 We want to live victorious!

God’s covering begins with understanding, affirming and trusting in Him.

Together let’s put on the Whole Armor of God over the next few weeks.

Ephesians 6:10-18    (NKJV)

10 Finally, my brethren, be strong in the Lord and in the power of His might. 11 Put on the whole armor of God, that you may be able to stand against the wiles of the devil. 12 For we do not wrestle against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this age, against spiritual hosts of wickedness in the heavenly places. 13 Therefore take up the whole armor of God, that you may be able to withstand in the evil day, and having done all, to stand.

14 Stand therefore, having girded your waist with truth, having put on the breastplate of righteousness, 15 and having shod your feet with the preparation of the gospel of peace; 16 above all, taking the shield of faith with which you will be able to quench all the fiery darts of the wicked one. 17 And take the helmet of salvation, and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God; 18 praying always with all prayer and supplication in the Spirit, being watchful to this end with all perseverance and supplication for all the saints—

His garments are priceless, yet to you they are free. You put them on from the inside out.

His armor will protect you through every storm of life, and guard you from spiritual and emotional attacks from invisible enemies both within and outside of yourself.

 John 14:20

“In the day you shall know that I am in My Father,  and you in Me, and I in you”

Are you ready and willing to put on Christ?

God presents His wardrobe:

Truth, Righteousness, Peace, Faith, Salvation, His Word and Praise.

Matthew 5:45

that you may be sons of your Father in heaven; for He makes His sun rise on the evil and on the good, and sends rain on the just and on the unjust.

Romans 8:37

Yet in all these things we are more than conquerors through Him who loved us

Ephesians 6:10

Finally, my brethren, be strong in the Lord and in the power of His might.

Psalm 61:3

For You have been a shelter for me, A strong tower from the enemy.

 Psalm 18:1-3

I will love You, O Lord, my strength.  2 The Lord is my rock and my fortress and my deliverer;  My God, my strength, in whom I will trust;   My shield and the horn of my salvation, my stronghold.    3 I will call upon the Lord, who is worthy to be praised;   So shall I be saved from my enemies.

 Colossians 3: 1-4

If then you were raised with Christ, seek those things which are above, where Christ is, sitting at the right hand of God.  2 Set your mind on things above, not on things on the earth.   3 For you died, and your life is hidden with  Christ in God.   4 When Christ who is our life appears, then you also will appear with Him in glory.

Galatians 2:20

I have been crucified with Christ; it is no longer I who live, but Christ lives in me;  and the life which I now live in the flesh I live by faith in the Son of God,  who loved me and gave Himself for me.

Do you doubt?  Do you wonder…If God is my Shepherd, why doesn’t He take better care of me?  If He is my King, where is the power that provides strength and peace?  If He is my Father, why isn’t He gentler with me?  Could the problem be in you and not in God?

We need to understand that His armor may or may not protect us against the storms of the world (Matthew 5:45).  But it always protects us against the assaults of Satan, who purpose is to use the circumstances of the world to crush and destroy far more than any storm.

God’s Word is the one offensive piece of armor, while the other parts protect us from harm, only God’s Word will silence the voice of the accuser and stop the attack.  We must find the Scripture that becomes ours alone to carry into each battle…then put on God’s wardrobe and WIN!  Understand the grand prize is a life forever with him.

Together we can lift each other up to God and stand together in God’s victory through each painful, and challenging situation.

Next week join us as we begin with  Truth!      Hugs…Thelma
