So you want to be a leader!

20 Sep

So you want to be a leader.  You want to lead a group or work with the youth in the Church.

You hear God calling you to do more than you have been…

Do you also hear him calling you to BE more than you have been?

Great leaders are not perfect, they have never lived a perfect life and they will continue to make mistakes and some poor choices; however, they understand that leading others to God is not done with the mouth, but rather with the choices they, the leader, make in their own lives.

We want a President that upholds the values and principles of our Constitution, we want a teacher that will teach our children the truth, we want a pastor that not only knows the Bible but also lives what he asks of us.  And we want church leaders that not only show us how to walk with God, but that walk with God in their own lives.

I may lose you here, I hope not…but if you want to be a leader then you must make every effort to make Godly choices, to speak Godly words and to treat others with Godly love.  I don’t care what style of home you live in, what you do for a living, how much you weigh, if you love to dance or if you don’t.  I am only concerned if those things take away a happy, healthy life for you here on earth…because they don’t take away from your future with our Lord.  However, when God calls you to lead and serve others ‘in His name’, then He asks that you live what you speak.  He asks that everything you do, you do to bring Him glory…no other reason.  If you bring glory to God in everything you do, then there is no limit to what you can do!

So you want to be a leader?  Ask God to reveal any place that you might not be acting or representing Him in a Holy manner.  Let others see God through your life, your actions, your love.  You won’t do it right all the time, just make sure that if you ask others to pray, that you pray.  If you ask others to give, that you give.  If you ask them to forgive, that you forgive.  When you ask others to love, that you love and when you ask others to trust God, that you trust Him also.  The cost of being a great leader is that you must first show others before you ask anything from them.  Faith without good deeds is dead!

James 2:14-26 New Living Translation (NLT)

Faith without Good Deeds Is Dead

14 What good is it, dear brothers and sisters, if you say you have faith but don’t show it by your actions? Can that kind of faith save anyone? 15 Suppose you see a brother or sister who has no food or clothing, 16 and you say, “Good-bye and have a good day; stay warm and eat well”—but then you don’t give that person any food or clothing. What good does that do?

17 So you see, faith by itself isn’t enough. Unless it produces good deeds, it is dead and useless.

18 Now someone may argue, “Some people have faith; others have good deeds.” But I say, “How can you show me your faith if you don’t have good deeds? I will show you my faith by my good deeds.”

19 You say you have faith, for you believe that there is one God.[a] Good for you! Even the demons believe this, and they tremble in terror. 20 How foolish! Can’t you see that faith without good deeds is useless?

21 Don’t you remember that our ancestor Abraham was shown to be right with God by his actions when he offered his son Isaac on the altar? 22 You see, his faith and his actions worked together. His actions made his faith complete. 23 And so it happened just as the Scriptures say: “Abraham believed God, and God counted him as righteous because of his faith.”[b] He was even called the friend of God.[c] 24 So you see, we are shown to be right with God by what we do, not by faith alone.

25 Rahab the prostitute is another example. She was shown to be right with God by her actions when she hid those messengers and sent them safely away by a different road.26 Just as the body is dead without breath,[d] so also faith is dead without good works.

Jesus showed us how to lead and asks us to lead others… to Him.

Clothed with the Word –  Sixth in God’s Armor

Have you ever wished you had a  “How to Book” on:       College – Dating – Marriage -Parenting – Life?

Well…surprise!   You do!

In school, we read a book and we write a book report.  Depending on how well we interpret the book, we receive a grade that reflects how well the instructor thinks we understand what we read.  It’s up to the instructor!

In life, we read the Bible and we live the book report.  Depending on how well we interpret the Bible, we live our lives based on what we believe or more important how we choose to live….It’s up to us!  We are given the why…to spend eternity with Him. We are given the what…Love God, love ourselves, love others, live righteously.

The Bible supplies us every what and why, then leaves it up to us to live the how!

God doesn’t care as much about how you do it…as what you do and why!

Ephesians 6:17

And take the helmet of salvation, and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God;

Hebrews 4:12

For the word of God is living and powerful, and sharper than any two-edged sword,

piercing even to the division of soul and spirit, and of joints and marrow, and is a

discerner of the thoughts and intents of the heart.

 Luke 4:1-13

Then Jesus, being filled with the Holy Spirit, returned from the Jordan and was

led by the Spirit intothe wilderness, 2 being tempted for forty days by the

devil. And in those days He ate nothing, and afterward, when they had ended, He was hungry.

3 And the devil said to Him, “If You are the Son of God, command this stone to become

bread.”4 But Jesus answered him, saying, “It is written, ‘Man shall not live by

bread alone, but by every word of God.’”

5 Then the devil, taking Him up on a high mountain, showed Him all the kingdoms of the

world in a moment of time. 6 And the devil said to Him, “All this authority I will

give You, and their glory; for this has been delivered to me, and I give it to

whomever I wish. 7 Therefore, if You will worship before me, all will be Yours.”

8 And Jesus answered and said to him, “Get behind Me, Satan! Forit is written,

‘You shall worship the Lord your God, and Him only you shall serve.’ ”

9 Then he brought Him to Jerusalem, set Him on the pinnacle of the temple, and said to

Him, “If You are the Son of God, throw Yourself down from here. 10 For it is

written: ‘He shall give His angels charge over you, To keep you,’ 11 and,‘In their

hands they shall bear you up, Lest you dash your foot against a stone.’ 12 And

Jesus answered and said to him, “It has been said, ‘You shall not tempt the Lord

          your God.’ ”

13 Now when the devil had ended every temptation, he departed from Him until an

            opportune time.

James 2:19

You believe that there is one God. You do well. Even the demons believe—and tremble!

2 Corinthians 10:3-6

3 For though we walk in the flesh, we do not war according to the flesh. 4 For the

weapons of our warfare are not carnal (earthly) but mighty in God, for pulling down

strongholds, 5 casting down arguments and every high thing that exalts itself

against the knowledge of God, bringing every thought into captivity to the

obedience of Christ, 6 and being ready to punish all disobedience when your

            obedience is fulfilled.

What temptations did you face this week?  What broke down your resistance?

The word of God speaks the truth and guides us on our journey of life until we reach our purpose…to share with others the good news of life everlasting through the blood and resurrection of Jesus Christ.

Hebrews 4:12

For the word of God is living and powerful, and sharper than any two-edged sword,  piercing even to the division of soul and spirit, and of joints and marrow, and is a discerner of the thoughts and intents of the heart.

Let’s encourage each other to seek, to choose,

to wear and to triumph over life by our transformation

through God’s Word.

What is – SALVATION?

Many Christians seem preoccupied with their emotional struggles – difficult pasts- lack of self-esteem and relationships

If we really understood the incredible things that God has done for us – our lives and attitudes would most likely be different.  Everything we need in life is found in a relationship with Jesus Christ.  Because you are a believer, God Himself, in all His fullness, dwells in your life.

The day you put your faith in Christ, your sins were instantaneously forgiven!  God released you from the guilt and penalty of the sins you committed.  God not only forgives our sins;  He forgets them, do you?

If that’s all salvation was, it would be more than we could ever hope for.  But that is only one part.  Justification does not only speak of what God has taken away (our sin); it also speaks of what God has put in its place.  God has placed righteousness in our account.

 Romans 5:1-2

Therefore, having been justified by faith, we have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ, through whom also we have access by faith into this grace in which we stand, and rejoice in hope of the glory of God.

Peace with God takes care of our past.  Access to God takes care of our present.

Hope of the glory of God takes care of our future.

God understands you…He takes care of you…He loves to bless you

Salvation and all its benefits – is enough for us in this life.  We truly need nothing more.  Think about this all week.   Adam and Eve walked with God in the garden, then they blew it.  It was not enough to be loved by him, they wanted more.

Life is not about us, it is our ONLY opportunity to learn about Christ’s sacrifice, to believe in Him and to find our salvation through Christ, our only opportunity to spend our eternity with God.

How Do We Achieve – SALVATION?

Am You  Ready to Wear the Armor of SALVATION?

Are you ready to step into this world, and show them you BELIEVE?

We know now, how to prepare and protect ourselves for battle against Satan and the world.  With – Truth (in Love) Righteousness (choosing right over wrong) –  Peace (trusting God to take care of us) and Faith (believing God’s promises without question).  We have learned about protection, but like anything else, if we don’t put on the protection, we are as vulnerable as if we didn’t know.  The final step in protection is Salvation  (believing and trusting in Christ alone is the only means of our salvation – life everlasting with Him).

1 Thessalonians 5: 6-10

6 Therefore let us not sleep, as others do, but let us watch and be sober. 7 For those who  sleep, sleep at night, and those who get drunk are drunk at night. 8 But let us who  are of the day be sober, putting on the breastplate of faith and love, and as a helmet the hope of salvation. 9 For God did not appoint us to wrath, but to obtain salvation through our Lord Jesus Christ, 10 who died for us, that whether we wake  or sleep, we should live together with Him.

 Romans 8: 24-25

24 For we were saved in this hope, but hope that is seen is not hope; for why does one still  hope for what he sees? 25 But if we hope for what we do not see, we eagerly wait  for it with perseverance.

 Romans 13:11-14

11 And do this, knowing the time, that now it is high time to awake out of sleep; for now our salvation is nearer than when we first believed. 12 The night is far spent, the day is at hand. Therefore let us cast off the works of darkness, and let us put on  the armor of light. 13 Let us walk properly, as in the day, not in revelry and drunkenness, not in lewdness and lust, not in strife and envy. 14 But put on the Lord Jesus Christ, and make no provision for the flesh, to fulfill its lusts.

 Hebrews 10:23

23 Let us hold fast the confession of our hope without wavering, for He who promised is faithful.

 1 Peter 1:3-9 and 13

6 In this you greatly rejoice, though now for a little while, if need be, you have been grieved by various trials, 7 that the genuineness of your faith, being much more precious than gold that perishes, though it is tested by fire, may be found to praise, honor, and glory at the revelation of Jesus Christ, 8 whom having not seen, you love. Though now you do not see Him, yet believing, you rejoice with joy inexpressible and full of glory, 9 receiving the end of your faith—the salvation of your souls.13 Therefore gird up the loins of your mind, be sober, and rest your  hope fully upon the grace that is to be brought to you at the revelation of Jesus Christ;

 1 John 3:1-3

3 Behold what manner of love the Father has bestowed on us, that we should be called children of God!Therefore the world does not know us,because it did not know Him. 2 Beloved, now we are children of God; and it has not yet been revealed what we shall be, but we know that when He is revealed, we shall be like Him, for  we shall see Him as He is. 3 And everyone who has this hope in Him purifies himself, just as He is pure.

Salvation has three parts – past, present and future.  The moment we believed and received Jesus in faith, we received both past and present salvation bought with His blood.

 Psalm 55:16-18

16 As for me, I will call upon God, And the Lord shall save me. 17 Evening and morning  and at noon I will pray, and cry aloud, And He shall hear my voice.  18 He has redeemed my soul in peace from the battle that was against me,  For there were many against me. Behold, God is my salvation, I will trust and not be afraid; ‘For Yah, the Lord, is my  strength and song; He also has become my salvation.’”

Psalm 121: 1-2

I will lift up my eyes to the hills—From whence comes my help? 2 My help comes from the Lord, Who made heaven and earth.

 Psalm 73:26

My flesh and my heart fail; But God is the strength of my heart and my portion forever.

How do we do this?  Whatever the conflict, He has provided a truth that fits and wins.

Do I fear?  He assures me of His power and presence.  Am I tempted to worry?  He reminds me of His kind wisdom and eternal plan.  Too little time?  My time is in His hands.

Our hope of salvation is for today and for tomorrow.  In Him we are safe.

 Colossians 3:2

Set your mind on things above, not on things on the earth.

 Romans 10:9-10

You will be saved!

that if you confess with your mouth the Lord Jesus and believe in your heart that God has raised Him from the dead, you will be saved. 10 For with the heart one believes unto righteousness, and with the mouth confession is made unto salvation.

2 Corinthians 5:16-17

You are made new, in Christ!

16 Therefore, from now on, we regard no one according to the flesh. Even though we have known Christ according to the flesh, yet now we know Him thus no longer. 17 Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation; old things have passed away; behold, all things have become new.

Let’s encourage each other to seek, to choose,

to wear and to triumph over life because of our salvation.
